Update – January 2025

The UK government will stop approving the ’emergency’ use of a bee-threatening pesticide – a huge win for wildlife after years of campaigning by Pesticide Collaboration members.

‘The Pesticide Collaboration welcomes the government’s decision to end four years of repeated ‘emergency’ authorisations of the neonicotinoid thiamethoxam, rejecting British Sugar’s application to use this bee-toxic pesticide. This marks a turning point for our environment and our pollinators, who have been sidelined in this decision-making process for too long.

We now call on the government to support sugar beet farmers in their transition to growing sugar beet without neonics, and for an end to repeat permissions for all banned pesticides to prevent further damage to our environment.’
